Faster Algorithms for the Minimum Red-Blue-Purple Spanning Graph Problem

چکیده
Consider a set of n points in the plane, each one of which is colored either red, blue, or purple. A red-blue-purple spanning graph (RBP spanning graph) is a graph whose vertices are the points and whose edges connect the points such that the subgraph induced by the red and purple points is connected, and the subgraph induced by the blue and purple points is connected. The minimum RBP spanning graph problem is to find an RBP spanning graph with minimum total edge length. First we consider this problem for the case when the points are located on a circle. We present an algorithm that solves this problem in O(n) time, improving upon the previous algorithm by a factor of O(n). Also, for the general case we present an algorithm that runs in O(n) time, improving upon the previous algorithm by a factor of O(n).

متن کاملColored Spanning Graphs for Set Visualization
We study an algorithmic problem that is motivated by ink minimization for sparse set visualizations. Our input is a set of points in the plane which are either blue, red, or purple. Blue points belong exclusively to the blue set, red points belong exclusively to the red set, and purple points belong to both sets. A red-blue-purple spanning graph (RBP spanning graph) is a set of edges connecting...
متن کاملA Metaheuristic Algorithm for the Minimum Routing Cost Spanning Tree Problem
The routing cost of a spanning tree in a weighted and connected graph is defined as the total length of paths between all pairs of vertices. The objective of the minimum routing cost spanning tree problem is to find a spanning tree such that its routing cost is minimum. This is an NP-Hard problem that we present a GRASP with path-relinking metaheuristic algorithm for it. GRASP is a multi-start ...
متن کاملThe minimum spanning tree and duality in graphs
Several algorithms for the minimum spanning tree are known. The Blue-red algorithm is a generic algorithm in this field. A new proof for this algorithm is presented, based upon the duality of circuits and cuts in a graph. The Blue-red algorithm is genetic, because the other algorithms can be regarded as special instances. This is shown using the same duality.
متن کاملSpecializations and Generalizations of the Stackelberg Minimum Spanning Tree Game
Let be given a graph G = (V,E) whose edge set is partitioned into a set R of red edges and a set B of blue edges, and assume that red edges are weighted and form a spanning tree of G. Then, the Stackelberg Minimum Spanning Tree (StackMST) problem is that of pricing (i.e., weighting) the blue edges in such a way that the total weight of the blue edges selected in a minimum spanning tree of the r...
